Profession Leadership
In the year 1995, Dr Soans began a lifelong association with Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the largest national professional body of pediatricians having over 45,000 members. His contribution to the organization at various levels culminated in him achieving the rare distinction of becoming the second person from Karnataka state to be elected as the organization’s National President in its nearly sixty-year history.
He has also been equally active in the Pediatric Intensive Care Chapter (PICC), an independent critical care wing of IAP, where he rose to become the first Kannadiga to serve as its National Chairman. He was one of the key persons responsible for establishing the Dakshina Kannada branch of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM).
In 2018 he was unanimously chosen to lead the newly formed OM Guild, a pioneering national level confederation of medical specialties founded to foster cooperation between the different professional streams of organized medicine.
He shares a long association with INDUS-EM – the Indo-US Emergency Medicine collaborative. He has also organized numerous regional and national professional conferences to facilitate solidarity among fellow professionals and disseminate professional knowledge and skills
He was the Scientific Chair for the 30th International Pediatric Association Congress 2023 and 60th Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics to be held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat in 2023. Presently, he is nominated as a member of the Scientific Committee of the 31st International Pediatric Association Congress 2025 which will be hosted in Mexico City.
